FAQ

AVG program update could ask you for a computer restart

You could be asked to perform a computer restart after an AVG program update if the AVG Firewall is installed on your computer and that update contains changes in the AVG Firewall component. Even if the update informative e-mail says that no restart will be required for that particular program update. This is a security feature. It is not possible to update the AVG Firewall without a restart.

Note: This applies to program updates NOT virus definition updates!

How to configure AVG Firewall

Experienced users can configure the firewall manually (to set up actions for individual communicating applications).

But you can also use the Automatic Configuration Wizard. This wizard will check your computer and recommend default settings.

It is automatically configured to provide optimum protection for your computer.

Manual Configuration and the Automatic Configuration Wizard are both available in the context menu by right-clicking on the AVG Firewall component located in the AVG Control Center.

The end of the license period is approaching, where do I obtain a new license number

A new license number will be sent when we receive a customer order by post or by e-mail. You can also use the online order form. It is also possible to contact your AVG distributor.

Installation failed

If the installation process fails when it tries to uninstall AVG6, cancel installation process and uninstall AVG6 manually: go to the Start menu -> Programs -> AVG6 Antivirus System -> Uninstall AVG item, and then run AVG7 installation again.

In case of installation failure, please send following information to the technicalsupport@grisoft.com e-mail address:

- the exact error message shown when you open a Details screen (Details button on the Installation failed screen)

- the AVG7INST.LOG file, which should be located in %TEMP% directory for Windows, usually C:\Documents And Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\ for Win2000\XP or C:\Windows\Temp\ for W95/98/ME/NT
